Hi. hoping someone here on the board would have some more information before I contact Olympus.
Today for the second time in a few days my camera is acting very wierd. When I switched to S-macro mode it frooze, wouldn't let me focus. Then it would not let me change from P to S, A or M mode. I would power off and then on again but after taking a picture in P mode and clicking quickview and delete, it would not let me move the arrow up to YES to confrim deleteing. Then the P would have a small s next to it like Ps . Then the ESD screen would flash on off on off, this is the screen where you can change the point or ESD focusing. I bought the camera last Feb04 and have probably done about 80 dives with it and until now have not had any problems or complaints. I have verified there is no moisture in the camera and no leaks with the PT-20 housing. HELP! ;(
Also, I live in Japan but bought the camera in Hong Kong, do you reckon Olympus Japan would honor the warranty? thank you.

Sounds like it needs a service. In all probability it isn't diving related and unless there is direct evidence that the problem has been caused by a leak it is best not to mention the words 'diving', 'underwater' or 'housing' ;)

I think all Olympus cameras come with a world-wide warranty. I know for a fact that Olympus Australia will honour the warranty even if it hasn't been bought in Australia, just as long as you have a valid purchase receipt / tax invoice.

Here's what has most likely happened. If, when removing the camera from the housing, you forget to lift the plunger, it will bend the rod on the jog dial. this causes all kinds of funky problems. You will find many posts on this problem on www.digitaldiver.net and www.wetpixels.com

That's where I would put my money but hey, I still use an old 4040.

I spoke to Olympus Japan and they are willing to honor the warranty even though the warranty card states Olyumpus America only. I am to send it in to their repair facility to get checked out.
Thank you for the advice, I will update the board later if I find out what went wrong - more than likely they will reload the firmware.

Agreed, The same things happened to my 5060... Fixed under warranty and everything seems fine.

Now I just have to get it underwater again!

Come to think of it... I usually don't lift the lever before opening and removing the camera from the case - guess I should be more carefull from now.
