My-way:
Hi all,

I have the need for a proper strobe rather than the camera flash.

However, I do not understand which one is the appropriate one. Ie. For example what is preflash and does my camera use a preflash? I have an Olympus C4040.

Also which is better, the Ikelite strobes or the Sea & Sea ones? Or is this a bit of a Chev v Ford question?

The reason that I ask is that there seems to be somewhat of a price difference with between the "digital" strobe and the ordinary strobes.

Thank for any guidance.

Cheers.

I have had both I like the YS90 with C4040 But like the Ikalite 125 it is best fot TTL on C5050.
I have a C8080 now and use the 125 with TTL and use My YS90 for slave

Funny that no one here talks about the Inon strobes. The Inon D2000 should be considered if you are using a C4040. Go to www.inonamerica.com to have a look.

Good point. With it's 'Advanced Cancel Circuitary' the D-2000 (and D-180) are much better suited for a pre-flash camera like the C4040 (IMHO). The D-2000 has all the modes (S-TTL, External Auto and full Manual) you'll ever need. Problems are:
- it has no sync cord connector so if intend to upgrade to a setup that uses sync cords then you're stuffed
- there's no fibre optical mounting kit for an Ikelite housing

Well, apparently, Inon Japan has a convertor to convert a sync cord signal to a infrared, specifically for the Nikon I think. Unfortunately, that is not available in the US (due to some patent problem). As for mounting kit, you can always modify. I am actually using a Epoque connector to my CP-4. Inon doesn't make one for Fantasea.
