DeputyDan & Others:
Nope - I'm not going to put a steal me tag on my luggage!
This really does nothing more than perpetuate a myth.
1) Luggage today in post 911 is more secure than ever before. Pilfering was always a federal offense, but these days- baggage handlers that run into an open bag
step back and call a supervisor. Not easy to stuff rubber hoses or your precious BC into their coveralls.
2) The value of SCUBA gear is
zero after you carry it out of the dive shop, drooling. Play-it-Again Sports won't give you a dime for it. You could fence it on eBay where people will pay insane money for cr@p, but then again, refer to #1 above.
Just because you paid a lot of money for it and hold it near and dear doesn't mean that it's likely to be stolen. I drive what amounts to a Japanese Ferrari, an Acura NSX... pure exotica. Do they get stolen? Not likely. Why? Nobody wants them like they want Camry parts.
Always carry your Dive Computer to protect it from bumps and the odd goof baggage handler that might figure out that it does have some resale value. I shake my head when I see passengers dragging their regulators as carry on.
Cameras belong in soft sided carry-on, or in a Pelican case in baggage.
The original poster, it should be noted, said nothing about using them as luggage tags, as a matter of fact, not having name and address- that would be quite useless. I think they were looking for a c-card that they could tag-off to their gear or wet bag. Why? WTFK?
