C-5050 optical viewfinder problem!

Look thru the viewfinder as you turn on the camera. As the lens extends the viewfinder comes into focus. Optics?

Optics it is - but this isn't an SLR. Every other camera I have looked at has always had sharp(ish) focus through the optical viewfinder whether the camera is turned on or off.
