Hello everyone,

so I have been looking for a new dive computer. Currently I am using Suunto Vyper Novo and for a casual days I have had my Apple Watch. But the Apple Watch broke and the Suunto dive computer is getting pretty old so I thought of buying a new watch. That's when I saw the Garmin Descent G2. What are your impressions on it? Is it worth buying? Do you maybe have something other that might be better? I am recreational diver, for now at least dive few times a month, summers every weekend, I also run a lot so it need to have good fitness features. What are your recommendations?

Garmin makes good watch style dive computers. The only thing I don't like is their use of proprietary AI transmitters. But many people find this not to be an issue.

My wife and I use the Garmin Descent MK2i. We can see each others air status. We love it. I have not had any issue with it. The nice thing is that they can do air, nitrox and trimix. My friend Chris uses it as a tech diver in addition to an aqualung dive computer as a back up computer. He has the Descent MK3i. Same configuration but with added bells and whistles.

There's a long discussion comparing Descent vs the Shearwater, lots of good info in there:

Thank you everyone, I will answer like this so I don't have to do it separately. I am not really looking for AI, had it on my Suunto dive computer and never used it… I just kinda see the Mk series too pricey and an overkill for what I need, but always wanted it 🤣. Still i find it too expensive.

If you just want a smart watch the Garmin 965 is very capable.
