Scubapro MK25/S600 is great and the Agualung Ledgend.

You can buy on the internet.

Kardisa,

If price is a consideration, I don't think you should exclude buying used regs as long as parts and availability are good.

The HOGs are attractive to the crowd that are inclined to do their own maintenance. If you count yourself among them then that would be perfectly fine. Given the internet and all, one can easily order the service kits and have them sent to them.

OTH, if you were inclined to rely on a LDS. I suggest you check brands that they service and carry parts for, develop a good relationship from them and purchase some lower ticket items from them as goodwill. All my regs were purchased in the U.S. and are happily serviced by my LDS in the Philippines. Given labor is relatively cheap here, an overhaul for a complete set of SP regs - 1st, 2nd, octopus runs about $25 + parts. So it was never that attractive to me to do the maintenance myself.:D

I just got back from the US where I scored a used Aqualung Conshelf SE, Ist and 2nd with console for $45. My LDS has the rig now and looks like I will have them in the water this weekend or next. Total cost with overhaul under $100

Normally I'm a huge fan of buying used, but in this case if the reg you really want is available at caveadventurers for $250, it's hard to say no to that. Definitely have a few rebuild kits shipped with the reg from the U.S. if there is not a local HOG dealer.

Now, what's shipping and import duty to Korea like?

As I don't see it mentioned, I should mention that while there are some HOG classes available, there is only a few instructors I'm aware of actively teaching the HOG maintenance course. However, the list of those approved to teach it growing and there should be more soon. You will need some sort of technical diving certification to take the course, but that could be a simple as a TDI Nitrox or Intro to Tech course.

Personally, I would not be worried about parts availability in the future. Even if Edge/HOG were to shut down, there are several very closely related regulators made by the same factory for other brands. Not to mention, all signs currently indicate Edge/HOG will be growing for the foreseeable future.

Even if you don't choose to service your own regulators these two books are a great read to understand how regulators work.

Now, what's shipping and import duty to Korea like?
Shipping was priced at $60 (priority mail) for the reg set and a mask. I believe I don't have to pay import duty on items less than $400, but I suppose I"ll find out for sure in a week or two.
