Buying a used Drysuit

Hi, all.....

I'm getting back into diving after a two year hiatus. I bought a new bcd and am thinking about stepping into a drysuit.

I have little drysuit experience, and am looking for something to train in, and that will last me a good long time.

A local former diver has a DUI CF200X for sale. It's advertised as like new, with new wrist, neck, and zipper seals (has the invoice to prove it). Hes asking 800$ for it.

I'm aware of DUI's rep for high quality, but is still a used suit. Assuming it fits well and the ad is accurate, is this a good deal? How long before I'd need to replace zippers and seals?

I know multiple people who have had very good experiences with used DUI suits. $800 is a pretty good deal if the suit is in good shape. DUI suits are expensive.

Have the seller take a photo of the tag inside (the one with written mfg date and such). Seal replacement depends on how old the suit is. Does it have zip seals or glued on seals?

If it's in really good condition it's a good deal for that suit.

Zipper and seal replacement is very hard to predict as a lot of factors come into play.

If the zipper and seals are good and it fits well it’s not a horrible price.

I just spoke with the seller and he says the suit is 12 yrs old, but well taken care of. Again, all the latex seals and zipper are new. I'm supposed to look at it tomorrow.

Picked up my CF200X used, the suit is pretty darn rugged. It is 11 years old, but even if you have to replace the zipper ($300-ish) you have already saved on the cost of having to replace the seals. It has been one of the best used scuba deals I have ever come across, keeps me warm in the Great Lakes and quarries.

I've only had one new suit, all the rest are used. Buying a suit with a good reputation, like the CF200x, used, is a great option. I would try to get the price more like $500, but don't let the age alone scare you, especially if it has the new items. Zipseals on a dui are nice, I miss those. If it leaks, don't fret, all drysuits leak, just get some aquaseal.

I am not opposed to used drysuits at all, both of mine were used. But for $800, I would order a Seaskin Nova, I believe.

I looked at today and it looks good. The zipper and seals are new--he showed me the invoice. The seals weren't even cut yet, so I could only pull up the bottom half to my chest. The seals are glued, not zip seals.

Theres no frayed areas and the seams look good.

Yea or nay?
