Hi everybody, I have one simple question, but I think about answer almost two weeks, so I would like to ask here. I´m AOWD + Nitrox diver (approx 50 dives), now I bought almost DIR equipment and wing for single tank (at October I will fly to Egypt, where I will dive with single tank). But my future I see in technical dive (deep caves at least :-) ). After next aprox 50 dives I plan to buy new BCD for twin cylinder. Do You think, that the best way is to buy one single and this one, then sell as used, or rent it and then buy directly twins. My instructor advise me to rent it (but he is owner of rental too :-) ). He advise me to buy twins after only 20dives, but I would like to make "better friendship" with my new equipment (I had jacket before my current new wing) and thats why total rental charge will be higher. Do You think, that better way is to make few dives on rented single tank and than buy twins, or make more dives on owned single tank and don´t hurry up??

Thanks for every opinion.

Regards

Lada

I only bought twins (and a pony), as I can rent singles for not a lot. But I can't rent twins around here. But you could just buy a doubles set and use the one with the right hand valve. They usually come with a manifold plug in the US, not sure elsewhere.

That way you can just pull the plug and build it as a doubles backmount when you decide to do that and the two tanks should be properly paired up.

As to whether you should do this now or not depends on your finances. A doubles bundle in the US is 2.5-3x as much as one similar tank without the bands and manifold. For one example, DGX is $270 per tank, bundle is $740.

Just buy the twinset/doubles. The sooner you start with it the better you will get. If you seriously plan to do technical diving you will end up owning some ali80's/40's eventually anyway - so if you were to buy an ali80 it wouldn't be a bad thing.
