Needle nose vise grips might work. I'll bet that was a high pucker factor when the valve hit. I did the same thing with an open tailgate.

You shaved off a tailgate? :rofl3:

I went in, took off the bonnet nut, tapped out the busted stem flambus and that was it.

About 90 seconds.

So I'm off to an LDS to source the full stem and some of the parts for the knob. I think the spring sprung into the lawn.

Unreal. 3500 PSI of glorious SoCal air remain unchanged in the tank.

Thanks everyone.

Why would it be extortion? If you don't have the stones to do it don't they deserve whatever they charge for it?

Relax, Macho Man. But thanks for your assistance with this.

Nah, shaved a knob off of a valve. The tailgate was down, I backed out and when I stopped, the tank kept going. It was a long three seconds or so watching it bounce.

Well there's the problem right there...

:D

Motivated me to figger out how to do it myself.

Gad - I may have had to get a fill in Orange County and breathe that drek. :shakehead

Ew.

Went into the junk pile and found a trashed Thermo valve I can't use any more.

I dissected it, dug out the part, cleaned everything up, put it together per the diagram a few of you sent over.... DONE!

For those of you keeping score at home:

- Damage Valve: 1 second

- Stress over Damaged Valve: 15 hours

- Log on, throw out problem, get real answers: 2 minutes

- Take apart valve and extract broken part: 90 seconds

- Dissect spare, reassemble formerly damaged valve: 4 minutes

Thanks everyone.

Darnit, I was hoping to see a crazy video of a tank spinning wildly out of control, people ducking, and general mayhem. :D

Does this mean you are making another stealth run to the OC? If so, I got dibs!!:D
While the experience of getting air at SC may be better than the strokery of LB dive shopism, are you saying the air actually tastes better with the same amount of O2 in it?
