Can any one suggest what may have stung me? I just came back from Grand Cayman and during a night dive I thought that my knee had swund into a sea uchin.
there was no immediate symptom but the next day the area around my knee cap was red and relatively sensitive to the touch. Otheres have mentioned a itching senstation from urchins but this burns and is getting redder. We cannot see any spines. Any suggestions?
Thanks

So, how do you "swund" a knee anyway...?

I always wear a long skin if not a long wetsuit, to protect my appendages from scrapes on wrecks and stings anywhere, but I recently had a headon collision with a jellyfish. I now wear a beanie on every dive, too. :smurf:

I applied white venigar to the injury as soon as I got back on the boat to neutralize the sting as much as possible, then calamine lotion to ease the pain, then sudafed after I finished nitrox for the day. Everything seemed to help. My head scabbed over a bit, :booboo: giving me something to talk about at work for a week.

If you still have problems, though, real medical advice might be a good idea!! :doc:

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry for the misspelling but it was hard to type when my joints were stiffening....not! I meant to spell swung.
Well I was wearing my full skin but it was not much protection against the spinny things. The current was slow but constantly driving me into the wall and while I was trying to maneuver to take a picture I was not watching where my knee was going. Just inexperience, I guess.
It has let up some but is still sensitive to the touch. Maybe I will wear my skating knee pads!**********:smilie(':mean:')

Sea urchin punctures can result in a burning sensation that lasts for some period, and one cannot always see any small remnants of spine.

As long as there is no evidence of infection or notable swelling, and the redness & discomfort appear to be improving, one probably can just keep a close eye on it. Any changes for the worse would suggest the wisdom of contacting a physician.

This is educational only and does not constitute or imply a doctor-patient relationship. It is not medical advice to you or any other individual, and should not be construed as such.

Best regards.

Thanks guys for the support. Things are improving. Redness and sensitivity are greatly reduced. And the pictures turned out great!
