That's too bad. Jack Baldwin, one of the owners, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) a while ago. The shop has been up the market for the last few months.

Buck, the co-owner, is still heathy, though and was doing most of the work anyhow since Jack was sick.

I did my AOW with the last summer.

Corregidor once bubbled...
Hey, I may buy some gear there soon. Would you guys recommend the place?

It depends on what you are buying there and how good a deal they give you. I go there periodically because it is a mile from my office. I did my AOW with them and it was ok, but the instructor doesn't work there regularly.

Keep in mind that the shop is up for sale.

Where do you live/work? I'm in there periodically.

I work in Lowell, live in Westford.

Buck was talking 10% off his marked prices, which seem to be MS retail: Atomic Z1 is marked $379 and SQ Balance is $468, so 10% off those prices. That's not bad for LDS, I think, and I'm looking for LDS service on these pieces of gear.

I'm hoping his service is good. I'll be buying soon.

I've only bought accessories from them.

What led you to choose those pieces of gear? Check around to make sure that the 10% off he's giving you isn't some other LDS's marked price. I've found them very expensive.

I checked Northeast Scuba in Chelmsford but they don't carry Seaquest or Atomic. They have SP and Zeagle but the prices seem high, although they'll give you a substantial break for BC/reg package deals.

The SQ Balance seems versitile - it's compact enough for travel yet strong enough for deep tropical dives. In the Phils I often hit 35 - 40 meters and sometimes more than that.

The Atomic Z1 performs well at depth and is reasonably priced. Other than than, it's just a personal choice because the equivalent regs for SP and Zeagle are good regs too.

The only thing I'm wondering about is should I get the swivel or not. I think I have to move up to the BI to get it, but I don't know if it's worth it. What is the downside to not getting the swivel - will you really notice the 'tug' on the reg?
