Given some fins (such as Scubapro TwinJets) give you a choice of (slightly) positive or negative buoyancy, what are the advantages or disadvantages of each? (If any). Any preferences?

Obviously if you lose a fin at the surface a positively buoyant fin is (at that moment in time) a better choice!

As you say a +ve fin will float, but this can be a pain underwater for some people as there legs may start to float above them making it more difficult to maintain position.

My preference if to -ve fins I have recently purchased a pair of Atomic splits which are -ve and they are great. My old pair were Dacor and also -ve, but over time and several thousand dives they slowly turned into split fins with none of the advantages

My choicec is -ve
