One of my NEW jetfins walked off the boat and was replaced by one that said "rental" on it (left by the cad that walked off with my new one) about 30 years ago. I started using pink fin straps, and odd colored weightbelt webbing (fuchia? I think it is. Whatever it is, it has butt ugly down pat!) as soon as they became avialable in the 80's. I haven't had any gear walk off the boat since.

I like the way you think! When people tell me about all their break-ins from their cars, I ask them what they expect with a dive flag, and scuba stickers all over it. It's an accident waiting to happen....
