Hmmm, more training of a bull shark. I'm not real big on giving them my catch, they learn to expect it & eventually become a problem that needs a powerhead for some diver to solve.

My buddy Jay got harassed by a very large sand bar shark. He got nervous, so he clipped his stringer of 4 Flounder to the anchor chain and went off hunting again. When he got back, the flounder were gone and the stringer was bent almost straight.

When we got back to the boat, he showed me the stringer. I got 3 flounder that day and never knew any sharks were in the area.

This shark is already known for taking people's fish. I don't think she should be held responsible for training this shark... It's already well trained, and notorious.

All in all... it was cool, and if we encounter this or another shark again... giving up a fish still seems like the obvious choice. Hopefully next time I'll get close enough to get some pictures.

I've been waiting for this story. I'm just glad you're both OK.

Attach a suicide clip to a safety sausage. Clip the sausage to the fish at the throat and send it up. Don't screw with Bulls.

She bought a lift bag after this encounter. The boats we dive with know to look for one.

WS- Even if we don't feed this shark... many others do. We've only seen this shark once in many trips, and are now sending large fish to the surface with a lift bag...

It was obvioius from this encounter that the shark was purely interested in the fish, and had little to no interest in us. We've had hogfish in a bag on several occasions in this vicinity with no sightings, but it seems that yellow jacks spew a lot more blood than a hog. So our bottom line is - large fish = lift bag = no sharks.

Walter - Your shark story popped into my head, when I first spotted this guy...

Michelle says she was just in awe of such a beautiful fish.

- I was really surprised at how much respect the shark gave us, with distance. It really did keep a fair distance away from us, and it didn't go for the fish until we were a good distance away from it. If I had my video camera, it would have come out, but it was just too far off for my DSLR to capture any images :(
