Hi Ken,

Are you interested in actually fabricating a plate, or just purchasing the pieces and putting one together. Often it helps to sample a few designs before making a purchase.

Lots of my friends have spare bp/w's. If you'd like to try diving one, I'm sure we could set something up ;-). It was nice meeting you at Lobos the other day.

I still stand that a plate is just a plate with different materials, holes but not much else.

The freedom plate is a whole different thing n I don't consider it a true technical back plate cus it's just meant for rec singles diving n not much else.

For me the freedom plate is just a ss version of a hard pack:

I agree with what you wrote.
Aside from some minor geometry, materials, and a few details, conventional plates are all roughly the same. Just like pick up trucks from different manufacturers, they all have different characteristics but all have a cab and a bed and are designed to do the same thing, haul stuff from point A to point B.
If you where to be blindfolded and dive any number of any of those conventional plates you would be hard pressed to tell one from the other.

The Freedom Plate is different. You are right, it is nothing more than a modernized stainless version of an old plastic backpack. But as far as I'm concerned, for dedicated single tank diving, there has never been a better more streamlined design ever created than the original old style backpack.

IMHO.

As with all things designed for a specific purpose, any other usage and it won't do as well.

I believe the freedom plate is as good as it gets for bm singles but like the razor harness, it doesn't multi task well.

I wouldn't haul a load of firewood with a Ferrari either, I would use a pick up truck.
