I see..... I think I get the message.... Don't bring lobster to the beach... AND, Think I'll start poking around as to "WHY" it's like that.... Thanks for the reply's and I'll break the news to the wife...:("NO ROMANTIC LOBSTER BAKES" on the beach...

jim..

You could always buy them from a local dealer to help boost the economy... since the lobster prices bottomed out here in Maine. Then you could do your romantic lobster bake on the beach. We've done them in previous years... just make sure there is no dive gear around.

Maine - No lobstering of any kind for anyone but lobstermen.

New Hampshire - You can have a lobster "trapping" license for a small number of pots, but you cannot take on scuba.

Mass - By permit only, and you must be a MA resident in order to obtain a permit.

Maine has the largest lobster fishery in the US. It is an important part of the local economy. As others have said, it is highly unlikely that lobstering will ever be permitted via recreational scuba given the $ involved and the strong voice of the lobstermen.

What about spearing a fish ? Can we spear in Maine for personal use ? I'm just getting started back in to diving, And NEVER did any diving in Maine... Great south bay and long island sound in NY 30+yrs ago and done a bunch of Florida diving on and off thru the yrs.... Spent the last 30 yrs skydiving and running a drop zone... Diving is so much easier on the old bones... ;)
