I love it, someone with the Great Barrier Reef on their doorstep and they're going to Coz! Enjoy your trip!

I'll go you one better - I have the incredible Ningaloo Reef on my doorstep...beats GBR by a mile IMHO and I can pop out for a quick 60+ minute dive over a long lunch and be back at work in under 2 hours...or more likely I just spend most of the day out there!

Thanks for the heads up on the car hire...I am hoping someone will say "used such and such as was really happy".

Now I'm REALLY jealous!!! Where is Ningaloo reef? And what made you decide on Coz when you have that right outside your door?

I used Smart Car the year before and had no problems... many people recommend checking all the websites and print out the "internet specials" and bring the paper with you. Sometimes the companies try to charge you more than the going rate. With it being low season i'm sure they'll be happy to have a sale.

Ningaloo Reef runs for roughly 260kms along the North West coast of Western Australia. The diving is awesome all year round and we also get the big guys: mantas, humpbacks and whale sharks (very late March through June & into July usually). It's a fringing reef which means that the best sites are a mere 10 - 60 minutes boat trip away...no tedious multiple hour journeys for us!

Am a Yank and returning for a visit to family. Stopping in Coz to dive and chill. Never been before. Something different. Doesn't look anything like our diving here mostly. We loved Puerto Vallarta and Cancun...did the AI resort thing in Cancun and left the resort only once! Won't do that this time, but boy, was that a nice break!!
