Greetings,

I am just days away from heading down there. Given that I am not Mr. Moneybags....I am trying to calculate how much moola to bring. Can someone suggest an appropriate amount of money for the week of tipping, drinking, taxi-ing....etc.

I cannot find any information about how much bottled water, soda, drinks.....bla bla bla costs.

4 days to go. Not much rush, right?

First: Bring small US denomination bills. The more you travel, you will realize that they are the universal currency.

Do a :search: on ScubaBoard, and you'll find a lot of tipping info. We do $100 to the DM and $75 to the Boatman per person, per week. There is usually a tip pool for other "unseen" employees. 10% of the total land package is the usual.

You'll find that the bottled water, soda and beer will be very cheap.

Also if you want to do the dolphin snorkel (totally worth $84-$112)
I have also heard rave reviews for the shark dive $75.00
$2.00/per/day for deco chamber fees

and please don't forget the bug repellent if bugs are even remotely attracted to you...

on 2nd thought since you are staying at AKR, the dolphins and sharks maybe incl in your price. Do both if you can.

Anthony's Key is offering a 40th anniversary promotion first person pays full price, 2nd person gets 1/2 off of their week packages. See their website for more details. Anthony's Key 40th Anniversary

I believe that deal was for trips booked by January 31st. I'm not sure if you can still get that deal or not. I know I booked for Labor Day week, two people, AI Hill Superior accom for $1800 including taxes and insurance. Seemed like a good deal to me. Now all I need to do is find a good deal on air!

My girlfriend and I booked the 40th anniversary deal and are leaving on 2/29. We booked our air through TACA air for around $600.00 round trip from San Francisco.

We are counting the days before we can bask in the sun, warm clear water...a far departure from our dives in Monterey Ca.

SAWEET!
