hi naga,,,,,,,

well there are 2 shops that service Recife area,,,,,,,have not been out with them,,one has about 3 large vessels for diving, also remember the sharks are very bad in the area of Recife. but there are many wrecks to see and dive there.

i lived in Joao Pessoa about 1 1/2 hours to the north for about 6 years,,it has one small dive shop there ,,,they had about 12-15 places to go diving, i used to teach courses for them.

out in front of the city are about 45 wrecks to look at, some are piled 3 deep and fairly close to shore so the visbs are not too good all the time.

also to the North is the island of Noronha which attracts a lot of divers. it is about 125 miles off the coast and many boats go there.

there are dive shops here and there in Brazil but many are far away,Rio was almost a 1000 miles South. with over 4500 miles of beach line you would think there would be more dive shops,,but the cost of diving is too much and for only a few with money and the tourists.

hope this will help...remember the average pay for the local worker is about 600-900 reals a month,,,with a real being 2 to 1 at this time. so many poor people in Brazil, in fact about 85 percent of Brazil are poor.
