if you're heading off to Leyte, Phil @ Sogod Bay Scuba can help you arrange for a cheap basic hotel near the ferry terminal (Kiwi run I think).

Shamrock in Fuente Osmena. 10 mins to the pier. All taxi drivers should know it. And everything you need within walking distance (places to eat, internet cafe, girlie bars, pirated dvd's, mall, etc).
