Budget Accommodation, Dive Shops, & Food

Hello,

I'm going to bay islands with my girlfriend. for a week in August 2008 (in the beginnig) and I'm searching for a dive shop & acommodation. I'm also a strickt budget traveller. cery basic double room, shared bathroom is fine for us. What is this fantassy island for 600 dollars? Is it this Fantasy Island Beach Resort Dive & Marina or what? Does someone now any good deals (acommodation + diving) during that time. I would need a padi courses too. I can go either to Roatan or Utila or somewhere near . Belize is also possible, but I think it costs more.

You may want to try Old Providence they has similar rate as the Bay Island. You can get a basic package for around $100 per night including dives, accommodations, breakfast and dinner. Beach are calm, clear and you usually won’t have to even share the beach with anyone. Great romantic getaway for you and the girlfriend. Dive is some of the best in the Caribbean. You will not have to worry about Spring Breaker here.

Yeh looks nice, but its far away from civilization. I bet it's not easy to reach

Yes it is far from civilization, that is what makes it such a beautiful place, no mass tourism, no over crowded beaches no over crowded dive boats.
Yes it is also a bit dificult to get to but that also depends on where you are coming from. Toronto has direct flights to San Andres Island then just a Island hopper to Old Providence. But most travel from the US is through Panama and is a full day of travel. Well worth the travel if this is the kind of place you are looking for. San Andres might be a bit easier and the diving is just as good Prices are a bit higher that OP but you woundn't have to deal with the spring breakers, they have not discovered SAI yet.
