hey everyone! first post here!

I apologize if I'm being an attention ***** and if this is posted in the wrong section.

as the title says I'm going to roatan Nov 12-29 and so far I have no buddy. if by an extraordinary chance you're also going at the same time and are also buddyless, we can talk!

otherwise, I assume it's probably easy to find one over there just by asking at the different dive shops (right?!)

I'm a 28y old single guy. Originally from Canada, I've been currently work in Florida for the last year or so. I'm not dangerous and some people think I'm funny! I have less than 10 dives under my belt.

wow my first post is already a thing of the past!!

It's a really big island for such a little island.

Where are you planning to stay? That's a very big part of the equation.

Welcome to the board, Bob! And congrats on your upcoming trip to Roatan.

What exactly are your plans? Will you be staying at a dive resort for the trip, or are you open? That will help in directing you on how/where to find buddies.

Also, why don't don't you fill in more of your Dive Profile, so that we know more about you? No, we're not stalkers, at least not all of us!

And, be sure sure to check out the Florida Conch forum, to see what the local diving opportunites are and to meet up with some of your neighborhood divers.

Howdy,
My wife and I will be down there during that time as well, staying at Fantasy Island. Let's hook up for a beer if you'll be in the area.

hi!

So far I checked availability with:
-seabreeze inn
-mariposa lodge
-chillies
-posada arco iris

I figured out I was going to check them out once I get there and then decide.

I like seabreeze and chilies for their association with a dive shop. I'm under the impression I can get a better deal, I need to check on that though.

am I more likely to find more potential buddies at a certain spot?! I don't have specific diving plan, let's just go where the action is!!

I'll certainly update my profile.

thanks

Those are described as being in "West End".

Been down twice solo from Canada. Dove with Reef Gliders both times.Just show up and check them out. Good people, small groups(sometimes just me),very reasonable. Accommodation very easy to choose once you're there in West End. Have fun!

As a frequent visitor to Roatan, I cannot more highly recommend:
mariposa lodge for low cost, high value accomodations
Coconut Tree Divers for easy, fun, and professional diving experience.

Hi Bobbarker,
Real name? Suggestions here have been v. good. You won't have any problem finding someone to dive with. Be sure to visit Sundowners (bar) on West End where a lot of the divers hang out.
I wanted to tell you that if you haven't gotten an air ticket yet, you might do what many of the residents here do and book TACA TA375 and TA158 from MIA to LaCeiba (LCE). It stops in Roatan on the way to LCE and you can just get off. If MIA won't tag your bags for RTB, be sure to have someone pull them (tip of course). This flight was $179RT when I looked a few days ago. Also, starting Nov 15 there will be service from Orlando-Roatan, via San Salvadore. Its only 3x week but they are going to be running some specials. Signup for TACA's desktop widget for the deals. No I don't work for TACA and I don't even like the airline, but if creative and adventurous, you can save $$ and have more to spend doing fun stuff. Enjoy the island!

Hey Bob,
You will have no problem being in the West End with no dive buddy. Like previous posters have said , even if you are the only diver looking to go out , my experience is that the shops will take you solo. There are many dive sites that are less than a 5 min boat ride that it makes it possible. I just returned and it is pretty quiet down there so you may get some dives in with just a DM. My experience is that most shops very good in the West End. Give West End Divers a look. Have a great time.
