Usually listening for their bubbles or just coming up about 10 - 20 feet and finding their bubble trail helps locate them.
Ahhhh... another mutant that can sense directions of sounds underwater. :)

While not as precise as above water, I do find that most of the time I can tell the direction a sound is coming from while underwater. I may have to move my head around a bit to better locate it, but I can usually tell the direction it is coming from, in spite of the often repeated wisdom that we can't tell sound direction underwater.
