So I never thought about this before until we recently set one of my daughters up with BP/W and she commented on it.

She asked if I can do anything to get her metal harness buckle to not squeak when she her system is not attached.

I was oblivious to this noise just as I am normally oblivious to the noise the HVAC system makes in my office until someone points it out.

My initial reaction was to tell her to pass the strap through the buckle and clamp the buckle down but since she brought this up I can't help but notice the squeak both her buckle and my own buckle makes when carrying/transporting our gear.

Of course I can clamp the end of the waist strap in the buckle to silence it, but I am wondering if anyone has had any luck employing other methods to silence the buckle when not being worn?

I always thought of the jingle-jangle of metal on a BP/W as a feature vs. a defect, but could always try some silicone lube on the hinge pins to see if that quiets the buckle down a bit.

I thought about trying that but had thought it would wash away during the fist dive after application. I will give it a try this weekend.

I typed that wrong - I should have specified silicone grease. It's waterproof and I'd think it should survive at least a couple dives.

I tried putting some machine oil on the hinges, it works, but have to reapply on every trip.

Not an issue for now since I generally lubricate everything after a dive (boltsnaps, threads etc), but can get tiring sometimes.

Silicone grease seems to be a good idea though.

wake uuup happy wake uuup it's only a dream, you must be lacking in vitamins
