BSAC Members Current and Past,

I wanted to start a thread about a BSAC topic and I could not find a sub-forum for BSAC. When I contacted ScubaBoard about BSAC they informed me it should be placed under "Training Agencies". Yet my proposed thread had nothing to do or very little to do with training and more with the social aspects of local BSAC clubs.

So what does SB members who are familiar with BSAC think? Should a BSAC questions please placed under:

  • Training Agencies Forum along with Sub-Forums like PADI, SSI, NAUI etc.?
  • Non-Geographical Diving Clubs Forum along with Sub-Forums like Military Divers, Grumpy Old Divers, Single Divers, etc.?
  • Other Forum locations?

While BSAC did provide great training to me, the social aspects where more important to me.

Thanks for your input,

~Oldbear~

I'd say under agencies. Although they are both a club and a training agency, I'd expect most traffic to the forum will be in relation to training issues.

P.S. May I propose a debate on the pros and cons of primary donate to kick it off?

Why not both? I wonder if SB could hyperlink both links to the same spot. Another idea would be to have one under each and make the one in Training Agency training threads and the other be "club" threads. I mean, it's the same amount of space so the cost and moderation of it would be no different...correct?

Victor,

I like your idea. I will wait until the poll has been up for a while and then make my suggestions to Howard of SB. Currently BSAC is not listed anywheres that I can find.

Thanks for your input.

While I did do Dive Leader Training thruogh the Kuwait Manta's (BSAC), it was the social events, both holiday, weekly gatherings and diving that I really enjoyed.
I do agree that on this forum that Training mostlikely would be the primary focus for BSAC.

If you want to post your question in a current forum, one of your options doesn’t exist.
The Non-Geographic Clubs forum consists only of four sub-forums, with no option to post in a general Non-Geo Clubs forum.
However, the Q and A for Scuba Certification Agencies forum does have a general forum – where you posted this poll.

Depending on the nature of your question, other current options might include:
Basic Scuba Discussions
Non-Diving Related Stuff
maybe:
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/whine-cheeze/
or … ??

On the other hand, If want a whole new forum started for BSAC, I suspect it should be requested by BSAC.

I agree with the OP that having a specific location for BSAC related content would be useful.

As you've asked.

As a BSAC Member I'm requesting such a forum.

Kind regards

Forum: Q and A for Scuba Certification Agencies
This is the place to ask that Dive Agency about their classes!
Dive Agency and other industry reps: Discuss your products and services. Tell us about any new products you might have. Ask for constructive criticism of your products and services. Share any other information you feel would be of interest. Please contact the ScubaBoard Team if you want a private forum for your agency.

The last sentence is the one of interest. If you represent BSAC, then clicking on the “ScubaBoardTeam” link and completing the simple form there should start the process.

I do not know the criteria, or the rest of the process, but someone else on the ScubaBoard staff will.

Good luck,

k

Hi knotical,

In the current economic climate it is not appropriate to use BSAC member’s money to monitor and answer questions raised on this site. Even the expenditure for our own forums is under review.

Its interesting that PADI also don’t have a dedicated Q&A section (not that I could find), any questions appear to be fielded by current SB members not PADI Inc.

I suppose I could always just start a thread “BSAC Questions? Just Ask Here” in “New Divers and Those Considering Diving”:

1. Would the mods allow it?
2. Make it a sticky?

Kind regards

I've reported your post to the mod squad, so others with more experience and authority than I can weigh in.

Hi Edward3c

Let me start off by thanking you for your interest in having a forum on SB.

1) I don't recommend a thread in New Divers
2) I would not make it a sticky, nor would I vote in favor of that. Why? There are too many stickies in New Divers as it is.

I would however recommend a Q&A forum, if other members of the BSAC council would be interested in participating, or if we could have verification from the chairman of the BSAC that you can be the authorized party to answer questions and be the official voice of the BSAC in this forum.

Q&A Forums are free for the group that wants to host one.

PADI does not have one, but SDI/TDI, SSI, NASE, and others do have Q&A Forums, so don't let PADI's non use of a forum deter you. PADI's reason is simply that they don't want an official voice. PADI would rather let their many instructors, course directors, etc who are already vocal enough and educated on the topics that may come up do the speaking for the organization, without giving an official PADI corporate response.

At the same time, there is a lot of benefit in increased SEO for your website, and visibility worldwide by having Q&A on ScubaBoard, which personally I have told PADI that I think they're missing the boat on. ScubaBoard has the most traffic worldwide of any scuba related website. (source: alexa.com)

If you're interested in continuing this conversation, I would recommend you PM me, and we can discuss the particulars privately.
