Well, I am registered for the Fundies class at Ducth Springs, PA on 9.29. The instructor is Bob Sherwood and there are 2 other people currently also signed for the class.

I am going to the class with an open mind, looking for the best possible guidance on how to become a good and safe diver.

I am really looking forward to get going with the class and would appreciate any advice ;)

Hold out for the Jim Jones Grape.

you'll have a blast

lots of hard work, but i think very worth it

think of as many "why" questions as you can and ask them. you will learn a lot.

Somebody explain to me one thing. What is the Kool-Aid reference all about? I know what people are talking about but have no idea how it applies nor where it come from.

Is there a big cost for equipment or will they work with what you have? How much is the class?

well, many people used (still do?) to make fun of DIR and call it a cult.

so... since Jim Jones killed all his cult-members with Kool-Aid back in the late 70's, people say to would-be DIR students "don't drink the Kool-Aid" as in, don't become a mindless member of a cult.

it's a misunderstanding of what DIR stands for (in my view), but you still hear it

;)

The cult followers of Jim Jones committed suicide by the hundreds by drinking poisoned KoolAid. Now go put on you tinfoil hat. ;)

Contact each instructor directly, most have stuff you can borrow/rent.

See the GUE website for equipment requirements for the rec version and the tech version of DIRF.

I have been gruadually changing my equipment to be DIR complaint. I work at a dive shop also, so that has lowered the cost quite a bit.

Duly noted. The course will last 4 days. I was expecting 3 days, but I guess Bob wants to make sure he covers all the basis.
