Noche Buena, por favor.

last time i was at Soriana they had 6 packs of Old Style ( imported from Wisconsin) for less than 2.75 a pack. Half of what it costs at home. We bought as much as we could carry and then went back for more.

It is perfectly legal (since 1992) for an American to own a business in Mexico, 100%. And in starting a business it is very easy to get work papers for the owner. However to operate a boat for hire, the boat must be 51% Mexican owned, and employees must be some high percentage Mexican. That ratio may vary with business type but for dive shops I think it is about 10 to 1.

I believe that places like Iberostar count their maids, bellmen, etc and end up employing 100% foreign dive masters (mainly European on short contracts). But it is not difficult to start a business under NAFTA, but again there are some restrictions-- but selling beer does not seem to be a problem.

No I haven't serious thought of trying to open a brew pub in Coz although it is a tempting venture. Clearly I'd need to learn the Mexican beers b/c I'm sure there are serious challenges importing American micros.

My husband loves make his own craft beer(aka beer snob). He talks about his dream of opening a brew pub in Cozumel way, way down the road. Not a lot of places on the island for craft micro beers. The Pub probably has the most decent collection of British Beers. Bonaire and Curacao are far more bleak when it comes to beer selection. Polar and Amstel, just nasty. While visiting those islands, we just rely on vodka tonics for happy hour. I do love the name of 'Ubeer'. I think you need to trademark that name;)
