Hey, Jer, next time we dive, we'll get some depth and I'll let you give my a huff and puff or two on my Atomic.

Atomic are great breathing regulators ... but have you read the thread about flooding the regulator durning rinseing .... you are suppose to keep it under pressure (hooked up to a tank) when flushing your 2nd stage ..... (upstream 2nd stage ?) otherwise you run the risk of water comming in the 1st stage thru the 2nd stage hose .... it's in the owners' book for both the T1 and T2 and my shop call Atomic and vertified that this might happen due to the way the 2nd stage is designed .....

The way I rinse my regs would never allow that to happen.

A good reason to opt for the sealed first stage (although the tech who works on mine threatened me) on your Atomic. I also added the wider exhaust tee from the M1. Very happy with both options.

The Atomics have a nifty moving orifice thingamajig to help prolong the life of the valve seat....there's an animation here: http://www.atomicaquatics.com/interactive3/quicktime2.html....looks like it's still a downstream poppit, but the seat doesn't make contact unless it's pressurized.

My Scubapro has a feature where you push the purge button partway in and twist to unseat it for storage. Means I can rinse without worry, but I guess it'd suck if I forget to close it before I hit the water.

I don't know about how they build these regs, but I don't think that the sealed 1st stage will prevent water from entering through the 2nd stage/LP hose.

Okay, I think I've researched what is going on here between the MR12 and my MK20. The MR12 has a DFC port to which my primary 2nd is connected. This DFC port is supposed to minimize the drop in IP on the hose when I take a breath. Also I think I read that the IP runs a little higher on the MR12 than the Mk20. Because of this when I take a couple of really quick breaths back to back (trying to "overbreath" the regulator to test it) on the MK20 it will sometimes get the feeling that I'm having to "suck" the air to get it going. On the MR12 I'm not having that feeling at all. It's delivery of air is consistant.

On the plus side the Mk20 gives me PLENTY of air and under my "normal" breathing I cannot really tell the difference at all except for the very "short" delay (almost, non-existant) on the MK20.

I think I setup the MR12 as my recreational setup and use the Mk20 with my long hoses, etc. Now I'm off to find another adjustable 2nd stage!

I got my MK20/G250's IP and cracking resistance "tuned" this morning. They are breathing sweet....

There are many factors involved to evaluate the regulator, such as water temp, tank pressure, depth, IP, and CR, etc.... I am sure that MK2 is more than enough for the rec. range diving. After the proper tune up, there isn't much difference between MK25 and Mk2 in the rec. range.
