I know stainless is preferred, but has anyone actually had a problem with brass boltsnaps, etc in salt water?? The price difference is a little loony

Yes - I have had a couple of brass bolt snaps over the years in salt water. The material started to flake and so by the end of the dive week I would often have grooved and bleeding scratches on my right thumb from where I would operate the bolt snap. not fun. I only dive with stainless now

There’s a lot of cheap brass made to look like bronze on line.

Do we just need to find you a source for quality inexpensive bolt snaps? Both brass and stainless pretty much range from $5-15 and maybe I'm just feeling bougie, but not really what I'd consider loony.

The approx $4 difference between brass and stainless steel shouldn't break you. How many do you really need?

Im mainly just a tight ass.

Then you're in the wrong hobby. :) JK!

Bolt snaps, given what they are used far, are pretty critical. We NEED them to work and work well 100% of the time. Pay a tiny bit more and get good SS bolt snaps.
I'm one of those people that just needs to feel like they're getting value for everything. Yes I know I'm in the wrong hobby for saving money, but ya know - be a tight ass on some stuff to spend more on others. I'm also into fine cigars and scotch..

Yes please!

From what I’ve seen, brass bolt snaps can be had for leas than $2, not $5-$15, so a source for inexpensive stainless steel boltsnaps would be great.

It’s hard to know whether, for some gear, it’s really necessary to pay for high end stuff. Sometimes we are paying the “scuba surcharge” - an inflated price charged because retailers know we are paying hundreds or thousands for some gear, so we won’t care about the price of other gear. Sometimes it’s not about the money, it’s about the feeling of being taken advantage of.

So if you have a source of 316 SS bolt snaps with 316 SS springs, let us know!
