Went out this morning with a new buddy. Water was nice & warm - around 57 - of course we didn't get more than 15 feet deep - spent the whole time bug hunting in the rocks. Two bigguns got away, lots of slightly under's - I gotta hone my buggin skills!

Water had lots of surge, felt like we were in a washing machine getting bounced back and forth. Viz was 15-20 feet, down to less than 5 near shore. Saw some big stripers, and a few fish that looked like groupers, kind of gray colored, darting in and out of the bigger holes.

Anyone up for a morning dive in Marshfield tomorrow? Gotta stay local as it's a beach day with the family.

yak once bubbled...
Went out this morning with a new buddy.

How'd you like that fog? I did Kettle Island and Great Egg Rock today. Going from Kettle Island to Egg Rock, I thought we were out in the middle of nowhere. We found Egg Rock, and went in for our dives. When I surfaced, I was shocked and dismayed at where shore was... I mean 200 yards tops. My buddy then pointed out where Kettle island was, and wow.... talk about getting lost in the fog!

He left me at the helm on the flying bridge to go check the GPS to figure out where we where. As soon as he stepped off the flying bridge; no more than 100 feet away a boat appeared. Thankfully he was just off the starboard side of the bow and there wasn't a collision course to deal with but .... damn.... fog is freaky!

Gary and I went to Old Garden this morning...got in just as the fog was clearing. There was no one there at 8:00 when we got there...When we surfaced, an hour later, the place was packed...probably 30 divers.

We forgot the tickle stick, so Gary brought a stick from shore down with us....didn't see any legals, though. One guy exited shortly after us with a bag full...3 just under the big gauge. Too bad we didn't do our dive over there!

We must have timed it right, as we got wet about 9:45. The sun was just starting to peek through the clouds, but there was no fog. Must have been a north shore thing?

Yea, it can be freaky. I remember some scary runs back from the Vineyard to Falmouth in pea soup. Getting last call the Lamp Post didn't help the situation either. (Those were the old days).

I haven't seen anything remotely close to just under the max. I'll settle for just over the minimum..:ogle:

We're going back out tomorrow at Brant Rock at 9am if anyone wants to join us. I think we need to snorkle about 100 yards further than today before going under.

Went back out this morning at 9. Jim and I got a couple of keepers (my first bug!!). Water was 53. I was a bit cold towared the end of the dive. Got 73 minutes out of an 80cf tank

Spent some time in the kelp covered rocks, didn't see many fish today. The same washing machine surge was bouncing us around.

The shop definitely overfilled my tank, my pressure guage read 3600, and I'm using a yoke style 1st stage. I was a bit paranoid about it so I let off a little air til it read about 3450. Jim says the gray fish I saw yesterday were tautog. Gonna bring the spear out one of these days!
