I just finished my open water cert. with NAUI through Innerspace in Lexington, KY. I thought that it was great and felt very confident in what I learned, although I need much more practice! Hats off to my instructors, who made sure we were OVERLY trained! (this is, of course, contrary to me mumbling under my breath because I had to take my mask off under water ONE MORE TIME!)

Not to knock all the PADI divers, but my brother got certified open water with PADI a few years back, and decided to do the NAUI cert. with me for a refresher and to add another agency cert. under his belt. I think it's safe to say that he was shocked at some of the skills we had to perform that he wasn't required to do with his PADI cert.

I think it may have had something to do with his instructor too. His instructor ended up loosing his life in a scuba accident; he was diving alone and got tangled, from what I know. Diving alone was not a wise choice, which leads me to wonder what kind of training my brother got....

Congratulations, and welcome to the boards!!

Glad to hear your brother took the course with you,
Sounds like you two are in for some fun!!

I'm looking forward to hearing about what's next!??

Dive safe, :)

Thankyou very much. Hope you dive all summer with us and the yrs. ahead too.

I have a c-card from NAUI, too. Glad you felt challenged; it really is not enough in OW to be Introduced to skills; they must be second nature. The NAUI leadership manual expalins that "muscles must learn" skills, too. Having a variety of techniques for each skill is debated widely; does it just confuse when the heat is on, or does it offer options when the simplest method is out of the question. Confidence is always a good thing. Be relaxed & know you are at the beginning of a great journey.

Congradulations on your cert. Remember Never Stop Learning.

I look forward to seeing you at the quarry.

first student I ever worked with.

If you think you had enough mask clearing(insert evil laugh) think again. There's also plenty of backroll entries to do(once again with the evil laugh)

Seriously though, I am glad to have you as a new dive buddy.

jbd

BTW Chad and I do take our masks off underwater routinely.

Yeah, I actually practiced that wretched skill in the pool the other day. See what you've done to me? You've warped me! I'll never be able to take a leisurely swim again without doing some kind of 'skill'!

Those backrolls are a b--ch though! They hurt my ankles and I feel like I'm going to just bob right over!

do off of a boat. We probably need to make up a training aid for that.

I love training aids JBD. What did you have in mind? We need a pontoon boat don't we?

sophisticated. I'll mull over some ideas.
