I am a relocated California PADI DM with about 1500 dives logged and I am looking for some quality Divers, Spearfishing prefered for dive buddies on the gulf. I am solo most of the time, but want to have at least three people diving.

I have a brand new boat this last year, 23 foot glastron with 8.5 beam IO 220 HP motor. Looking for a few people that like spearfishing and diving and willing to pay a portion of the fuel cost on the dives... I want to dive at least once a month around Orange Beach to Florida. I am going to be adding electronics this winter and a T Bar dive ladder.

Post if you are interested.

Welcome to the Gulf Coast!

I'd suggest a VHF, GPS, and the best bottom machine you can afford, as that's how you'll really be finding your dive spots. Compared to California, you'll likely be diving deeper here, especially if you'll be shooting fishies, so if you're not already nitrox certified, you'll probably want to invest in the training asap.

We typically anchor or tie into spots, and then run a granny line between the stern and the anchor line. A safety line with a float is then dropped off the stern (surface currents can be pretty significant)

Some spearos simply drop their divers on a buoyed line and have an operator loiter the boat in the area so they don't have fool with anchoring.

Don't be amazed if you have to go 15 miles from shore to find clear water. Vis is generally better the further you move East and/or South.

Hope to see you out on the water soon.

Welcome to the board and Alabama!! May the Gulf be friendly to you!!

Welcome to the area, I may be interested depending on the timing and costs involved.

Most of the boats I dive with just anchor or tie in, nothing to fancy. You don't necessarily have to go deep or far to find fish, you just gotta know where the spots are that aren't hit constantly.

Well I would be interested...but your request for "quality divers" has probably disqualified me. Also, I am not a spearo. I like to bring my camera and shot pictures of people shooting fish.

Welcome.
We are always looking for good DM's. Come by Gary's Gulf Divers @ Sportsman Marina on canal rd. Orange Beach, to see what were all about.
