I was just practicing reaching my valve on a dive last week. I've had multiple shoulder injuries over the years which limit my flexibility some. With my right hand, I pulled up on the bottom of the tank. I reached back for the valve with my left hand. I felt something which felt like the valve, but quickly recognized the texture of it as my air transmitter. Using it as a guide, I knew I was close. I tried again, reaching past the transmitter, and landed my hand on the valve. I was able to reach it with some effort. It's not something I want to have to do in an emergency though because it wasn't easy to reach.

About 6 weeks ago on a private boat, I was all geared up, ready to jump off the side. I did a quick check through all my gear to make sure I had everything. My pressure gauge was at 3600lbs. I did 2 short breaths from my reg and the pressure dropped below 3000. It was the first time that I was that ready to jump in the water and didn't have my air on. I usually have a pony bottle on me and didn't this day because it was at my LDS. This is what motivated me to practice reaching for my valve. Next, I'm going to practice releasing my crotch strap to do it towards the end of a shore dive.
