I'm going to try out using a BP/W setup and after getting my hammerhead backplate, I noticed that I'm going to have issues with fitting my PST E7-80 onto the plate with a STA because the attached boot seems to make the rig ride too high by forcing the lower part of the STA to be just above the boot. My AL63 just fits since it doesn't have a boot attached. Now, am I missing something? I tried to attach the tank bands through the middle plate slots and fed them through the wing and that seems to work but the top STA is sitting on the shoulder of the E7-80.

What I need to know, am I doing something wrong?

One option would be to mark where the tank should be (optimal height), and remove that section of the boot with a jigsaw or equivalent. You wouldn't have to fuss around with positioning, etc, afterwards.

The E780 would fit just fine on the BP/W if you lose the STA. Or, you can try a round tank-boot so that it would sit a little better on the STA.

Halcyon's weighted STA is the perfect size for the E780's. There's also a couple people on the board who can make you a custom one too if you don't want the weighted version.

Get a Zeagle plate using 2 cam bands, you then don't need to use an STA.
200 dives and my tank has not moved.

I just received my replacement one piece STA from hammerhead. It has another set of slots cut into the STA (3 sets total) about 3/4 of the way up the STA. Haven't tried it out in the water yet but the STA now "fits" on my PST E7-80 (with boot attached) with the ability to use 2 tanks straps.

Just ditch the boot. I have never seen HP 80's (aka peanuts) with boots when used with a BP. Not enough real estate on those things to keep the boot.

Yeah you don't really need the boot. The tank will still stand up in a tank rack on the boat, and if you're wanting to leave it standing up somewhere, well, you really shouldn't do that anyway...
