Hi I just got a Halcyon Infinity and will be diving it for the first time next week. Previously I have been diving with an Alcyone back inflated.

Any advice on how I can transition into my new gear as smoothly as poosible?

Thanks :)
Vic

Is it all put together already? If not, THIS page has some good assembly instructions.

HERE and HERE are two pages that go into how to adjust the harness correctly -- this is the key to being comfortable with a backplate setup. One tip from me: The crucial link is the crotch strap. If you are going to err, err on the side of making the shoulder straps a little long, and taking up the slack with the crotch strap. This will work better, be easier to get in and out of, and be more comfortable than making the harness too tight.

Get in a pool with the new BCD and your other dive gear and get use to using it. You will feel a lot better finding out what it can and can't do in a controlled pool, rather on a drift dive in the ocean.

I think you'll be pleased with your gear. You should think about where you will clip your gear to the bpw. Coming from a Zeagle Concept and an Aeris 5 oceans, I am very pleased. Great trim, very streamlined and super comfortable. Also think about tank position on your bp.

If you can get someone to shoot some video of you in the water with your new gear, it should be very helpful. Good posture will be as important as anything else you do.

Just took it down in Bali for the first time and after 2 dives I have to say it's a really awesome piece of gear.

Really comfortable in and out of the water, easy to walk around the boat with it. In the water it's so easy to get a nice trim and now I understand why streamlining is such a big buzzword around here: really can feel the new ease of moving around in the water.

2 questions though.....

1. The bc still seems to float up my torso should I tighten the crotch strap more?

2. It's really hard to adjust the harness after the dive, esp when I want to lossen the shoulder portion it seems like the cinch is stuck and refuses to budge. Any advice? Has it got to do with the weight pockets having weights in them?

P.s what's the best way to cut the webbing?

Yes. Adjust your crotchstrap so that when you tighten your waist belt, it doesn't go anywhere vertidcally.

It's a bit harder to slide once the webbing is wet. Just shake & wiggle your body a bit.

A scissor/shear will do just fine then take a lighter and melt the end so that it doesn't fray.

Acoust,

Yes, with the weight pockets on the infinity, you will sometimes notice a 'hitch' when sliding. Just make sure to take a look at the weight pockets and where they are sitting when you try adjust, when it is meeting with resistance, you'll notice that they are likely flopping down a bit kind of pulling on the belt. If you straighten everything out a bit, it should slide just fine.

Also sometimes you might notice the rubber light retainer having moved down (if it's not being used) and slipping through the cinch assembly binding things up a bit :)

I use the ACB10's when diving a single tank, with 5lb soft weights in each pocket.

one thing to remember is once the BC is in place, you can loosen or tighten the system in the water. Just put your reg in your mouth and lay face down so that the floatation of the wing is 'unweighting' the system will allow it so slide most readily, upright (with gear unweighted by wing) also works but not as well as face forward like in the video.

sometimes if your waist strap is loose once everything is in place, it will actually 'v' down and make your crotch strap appear looser. if you find that things are sloppy where they were not a on land, try tightening up your waist strap a smidge.

The beauty of the cinch is that you can have the shoulders the 'correct' length for a stable system and still be able to get in and out of it readily thanks to its adjustability.

As time passes you may find you only need one side adjustable, and can fix the right side with a triglide.

if you find that you are getting it "too tight" or want it to 'remember' the perfect size, you can also put a triglide stopper in at the 'smallest' you want it to go (so it will be on the shoulder strap side) this will allow you to make it as BIG as you want, but stop it from tightening up past where you found was idea position for you :)
