Alrighty folks, I've made the switch after seeing the light. After about 100 dives on a rear inflate ScubaPro BC, I've sold it and gotten a BP/W from Tobin at DSS. The main reason I'm switching is that I've learned to be efficient, and want a more streamlined system, that is also modular. Here's the skinny:

DSS SS Backplate
DSS 26 lb Torus Wing
DSS Hog Harness

I have some XS weight pockets which slip onto cam bands or 2" webbing, so should be able to trim everything out correctly. Based on calculations, I'll only need about 4-6lb of balast in this config.

What I liked about the DSS single tank wings is that they have a built in anti roll device that makes a STA pretty unecessary. Plus, it's very hydrodynamic.

I'll report back after my upcoming dive trip using the rig.

Cheers,
D

I dive a similar rig - albeit an Oxycheq wing with a single HP 100 tank and a SS STA. I am about 170# and 6' - and wearing a 7mm in fresh water - I do not need any additional weight. The weight distribution and diving position is ideal with this configuration.

Best of luck in fine tuning your new gear!

Thanks DCS. I'm #185 at 5'10". I wear a 5ml full for most of my diving.

Once I get my weight down, I should require less ballast.

Great. I have tried to reduce weight as much as possible to find the balance point (with 500 psi at the end of dive). I also keep a log (matrix) of tank type, Exposure protection, and gear configuration so that every time I change gear I do not start overcompensating for the conditions.

Best of luck to you and your new gear. By the way - I have the DSS Suunto Vyper and Suunto SK-7 compass wrist mount boots and really like them. DSS makes great gear.
