So, I'm putting together my first bp/w rig, and it's going to be a custom job. My buddy is going to help me string it up (and probably do most of the sewing), and I am trying to figure out where best to put the attachment points on it. Right now, I've at least got the "standard" 6 d-rings in mind (shoulders, hips, crotch), but I was wondering if anyone out there had any neat ideas on alterante placements, or extra rings/posts/doodads, and why they put them there. Any insight would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

How much sewing are you contemplating? I wouldn't want to sew in any of the attachment points, because then if you change exposure protection (or God forbid, change weight) you can't change the position very easily. Using a triglide secures rings well and still allows fairly easy change.

The only thing that's sewn in my harness is the loop at the end of the crotch strap.

I think he's making his own bladder holder too, but maybe asking about extra d-rings.

Thanks,

Steve,

In a traditional "hogarthian" harness the only sewing required is on the crotch strap, and that too can be replaced with triglides in a pinch.

Typically there are 5 drings total. One each on the shoulder straps, one on the left hip, one the rear of the crotch strap (butt ring) and a sewn in ring at the front of the crotch strap (scooter ring)

The crotch strap is often made with a softer webbing than the harness.

Some may leave off the butt ring, and the scooter ring. The shoulder drings are often bent slightly.

Here a link that shows the parts, and the assembly http://www.deepseasupply.com/page25.html

Boy, I'm really missing what I wrote that's so funny . . . humor impaired this morning, obviously!

I guess I should clarify. I will be doing some sewing on my harness, as it will be a modified "comfort" harness, if you will. There will be two rings in the shoulder straps at about mid-chest, to allow the lower portion to pivot (a lot like the comfort style harnesses) but I'm mking it myself as I want to take all the ideas I like from each brand and use them (for some reason each brand has something I like, but none of them have everything.) I will be going with 6 d-rings to start, the standard Hog setup with an additional ring on the right hip. I was just wondering if there were any other neat little setups that anyone had out there, and why they did it (I was reading about a guy who welded to rings to his bp, and the idea got me wondering.)

So, if y'all have any neat doodads on your setups, be it an extra ring, or some bungee, or possibly flashing lights and disco balls, I'd like to hear about it, and why you put it there. I have some ideas of my own, but I'd like to see what else is out there.

BTW, thanks for the pic Tobin. My rig will be set up slightly different (more like your pro-fit) but it sure is nice to see a step by step on how to thread the harness.

You know though...now that you bring up sewing attachment points in....I could just sew the bp right to me. It'd be the ultimate harness. I'd just have to figure out a way to get the doubles on. And where would you put the d-rings then? ;)
Thanks,
