I am certainly no wing design expert, but from what I have seen, a "perfect fit" bladder is not the way wings are being designed. I have had a two other wings before, a DSS and a HOG, they both have bladder size bigger then shell, more or less like Halcyon's.

I could be wrong, but my guess is that if the fit is perfect, the stress on RF wedding will be too much if the wing is fully inflated. It may shorten bladder's life. So everyone is using the shell to limited the size/life so RF weddling will not be stressed. To me, DSS, HOG and Halcyon are pretty reasonable. The amount of over size looks small, and probably won't trap air. The Oxy on the other hand, with the kind of fold inside the shell, air trapping is inevitable.

I totally agree they did this to reduce manufacture logistics at the cost of performance. And I think they got aways with it because most people probably don't have multiple wings of the same type. And even if some do, they don't do back to back comparison.

If the bladder "fit perfectly" in the flat/non-inflated state (ie 2-dimensions)... it would actually be TOO SMALL when inflated (ie 3-dimensions)

By this, I don't mean cost cutting. I kind of think Oxycheq use the same bladder for all size wing. It reduce manufacture complexity. But I can't confirm since I only have the 40.

Assuming you are correct and all Oxycheq single-tank wings use the same internal bladder than wouldn't the 40 lb vent the best and the 18 lb vent the worst? Why wouldn't Patrick size the bladder to "perfectly" fit the 40 lb and just stuff it in the smaller wings?

BTW: Here is an older thread from Scuba Toys (they were a dealer once upon a time) addressing the same topic.

The 18 is tiny. I've had the 18 out and have inspected the 40. The 18 bladder doesn't seem as oversized as the 40 and of course the 40 is dimensionally bigger.

My 18 vents effortlessly, not so much with the 40.

Some of the posters seem to think that Oxycheq uses the same bladder for all their wings. From your experience, having them in all sizes, I guess this is not true. If the 40 is oversize I wonder if it uses the same bladder as a doubles wing or if they just got carried away. lol.

Oxycheq seems to be becoming an OEM. The new Apeks wings appear to be Oxycheq designs as do the new UTD wings. I wonder what bladders they use.

i will remove them all this weekend and do a side by side comparison, for no reason other than curiosity. If the 18 is the same size as the 40 I'll eat one of them...

I'll take some photos if anyone's interested.
