Does anyone know how far apart the cam slots are spaced on the Deep Sea Supply backplates? Also, does anyone know of the Oxycheq/Koplin Aluminum backplates even have cam slots, and if so how far apart they are spaced?

Thanks,

mahjong

I just helped a buddy assemble and Oxycheq BP/W system today, and his 6# BP did not have the cam slots. Also, only had 4 holes around the edge of the plate. Also, the edges around the holes and cut-outs were kinda rough. It made me really appreciate my Fred T.

Here's the pic from the Oxycheq web site:

Thanks. I saw the pics on the Oxycheq Web site and was hoping they might be dated. I do dive an Oxycheq lightweigh STA--the edges were really sharp when I bought it and I had to file them down by hand, on the advice of Oxycheq.

DSS has the camband slots but they are not spaced the same as those on a Halcyon plate.

Three solutions present themselves:
1) Force the cambands to fit for the Halcyon wing spacing (what I did with my wife's rig)
2) File the lower slots a 1/4" longer (which is what I'll do to my wife's plate when I get around to it.)
3) Buy a DSS wing (which is probably why DSS made their slots slightly different.)

friendly of DSS...too bad, was considering their hybrid plate...I suppose this is why Tobin did not earlier respond to my question about the cam slot spacing, but did tell me that he doesn't know why any manufacturer would provide info on their Web site that would make it easy for consumers to "not" buy a complete package from them. I won't be buying gear from DSS, though I might bite the bullet and try their Delrin screw nut, that is if it was made to fit standard bolts.

Well... I wouldn't write them off just because of that. The rubber inserts in the webbing slots seem to be a good idea... they eliminate chafe and have a inner ridge that grips the webbing and thus eliminates the need for weight belt keepers to keep the adjustment.

It isn't impossible to make the Halcyon wing fit as is and a little work with a die grinder would make it perfect.

Had the same issue with my wife's Pioneer and DiveRite AL BP. Same solution too.

Mahjong, what wing are you trying to fit? I carry Salvo BPlates. I'll messure the spacing in the morning if you are interested.

Double80s...I'm looking to buy an aluminum backplate (ideally on the shorter side, but this is looking less and less possible to find) to fit with an OMS 32# wing, which does have the built in tank stabilizers. I can use a full-sized plate--I do right now (Scubapro SS BP) with my cold water rig and drysuit. I'm trying to piece together a really lightweight BP/W setup for travel, and so thought that a shorter plate would save a few ounces and some space (probably fit me better as well, as I am only 5' 5", perhaps might swell to 5' 6" in the hot and humid tropics). In addition to the cam slot spacing, I'd also be interested to know the height and weight of a Salvo aluminum plate. Thanks, mahjong

Then what you want is a FredT short Al plate. They are 1.5 inches shorter than a standard plate, weigh about 2#, and are slotted for Pioneer wings. They go for around 55 to 66 dollars plus shipping.

Actually... I'll have to look and see if the slots in the OMS single are similar to the Pioneer's slot location. I think that they are but I'll have to check. (I use an STA for everything, so I don't really look at the slots.)
