You bought brand new gear. so look it over and make sure that it is brand new. No wrench marks, scrapes, nothing. If that's OK, hit the pool, carefully. If from a UK authorized dealer, I'd have confidence.

Used is another matter.
 
I bought a regulator (apeks flight) and bc (aqualung zuma) online from an overseas dive shop (saved hundreds of dollars). When it arrives, what should I inspect before taking it on an upcoming trip to Bonaire?

Would it suffice to test it with a tank in a pool?

Would you ask the same question if you bought it at a local dive shop? Why/why not?

Excellent question. I think I would still want to see that it operates before taking it on its first trip, though I would expect the local dive shop would let me do that in store when I picked it up.
