You could keep the canister and light, but change to a NIMH battery. A NIMH battery will be smaller, lighter and burn longer than the SLA battery of the same amperage. This will mean it will be less negative too. I have 3 AUL canister lights. I changed to NIMH batteries a long time ago. Take a look at www.batteryspace.com.
