I would also like it to record time in seconds in some mode, for timing stops.

Use a stop watch like a Casio G-Shock - of course the numbers will be rather small. The least expensive dive computer with a nice gauge mode (i.e. DIR friendly) and relatively big display, imho, is the UWATEC Aladin Tec - it comes with a rather big boot and very long strap but you can pop the computer out and put it in a DSS "boot" as the Aladin Tec is the same size as a UWATEC BT.

i had the same problem, wad going to go with the uwatec bottom timer, but found that cochran makes one too, its their emc-14 model, but guage only, i found it on www.techdivinglimited.com , it cots more, but it has user replaceble batteries.

I use a suunto vyper in gauge mode and a oms bottom timer. The bottom timer is easier to read but i like to download my dives.

The DeepSeaSupply bungie holders are the answer to not fitting properly. You just put the right size piece of bungie on.

Good luck.

Any ideas?

The Aladin TEC in gauge mode is what I would like because of the average depth and stop watch features, but it's expensive for a bottom timer, so I just use my versa pro in gauge mode (no seconds though) and a timex helix dm as a dive watch and backup. it displays depth, time (incl. seconds) and temperature so it's basically all i need and look at - but it's only depth rated for recreational depths and you have to remember to put it in dive mode before the dive (no pushing the buttons underwater).

I have that computer and it doesn't do seconds. It functions exactly like the uwatec bottom timer. Besides if you wanted to get that computer just to use as a bottom timer you could get the prime and save some money .. or just get the bottom timer and save even more money. :)

Edit: Actually the Prime DOESN'T do gauge mode. I just went and read in my manual. Apparently that's just a feature of the TEC.

I have poor vision, so I like the UWATEC/OMS BT because of the large display. For monitoring ascent rate and short stops, I just count: 1 Mississippi ... 2 Mississippi ... etc.

You guys are absolutely no help whatsoever! What ever happened to support the husband?:)

BTW, the Cobra is NOT to be Ebayed -- it is my backup/spare.

Peter Guy said, "OK, then she got a dive watch which SHOWS seconds so her stops were "spot on" BUT now she finds out the band won't fit over her dry suit. Now SOME people might say, get a bigger band or come up with an extender, but, hmmm, nope -- MUST GET ANOTHER TOY!"

A suggestion for that problem is to band the watch around the console hose so it becomes a part of the gauge pack. It works well for me.

Dave

PS Good Luck with the other problem.:D
