You guys finding any bottom that's not covered in silt on beach dives? I've made 2 trips this month, one off Service Club and another south of the Pier in 18-22' of water. In both areas the fossiliferous clay was covered in a layer of silt that needed to be fanned in order to see much. This is in contrast to numerous dives I made in 2008-2009 when I could easily find hundreds of teeth a day, no fanning required. I only made a few dives last year (2010) off Service Club and never escaped the silt. I can deal with suspended particulate matter (whale snot as you guys like to call it) and even low visibility, but the silt's quite the buzz kill.

Thanks,
Dave

A bit further south down at s. brohard it does not seem as bad but service club is still very silty.
Even alhambra seems better than service club but it may just be the areas I was in. Yeah, tough to make
out a black fossil with the silt cover.

Yeah,.. you gotta move to new places.. try different spots. It takes some storms to roll in to get this silt off the bottom.. I had places that were smoken' 3-4 years ago and are covered in about 3-4" of sludge!.. every couple months I'll go and check em oit tho. Good Luck!! Bag a big one for us!!!
