Hi-I'm a diver from Boston & will be in San Diego the 13-20th. Was wondering what dive conditions are like in the area. Are there any charters to the Huron or that sunken thing that was some military rig or look out? Any dive clubs to hook up with? And can you dive wet this time of year? Dive shops you recommend?
Lots of questions. . .would appreciate any input.
Thanks!

Right now we have a bit of a weather issue, quite stormy and its supposed to last the week. I was at the beach today and it was not pretty at all, 3+ min surf and very very choppy.

I think your refering to the Yukon, and im sure there charters but not sure what the sea conditions will be. Being this is coming from the south i would suspect not bad if not very bad diving conditions at the yukon. Anyone have different info pls corrtect me.

I dove SD last saturday and it was 55 at the suface and colder as we dropped into the canyon. There were 3 drysuit divers ( i was one of them) and 5 wet suit divers i saw that day. Its cold but doable depending on your comfort lvl.

Plenty of dive shops, plenty of clubs or groups diving. unfortunately i think this weekend is going to be bad for diving, but it may still clear up for the weekend who knows.

not to bum u out but last saturday the conditions were perfect. I will post a pic as soon as i figure it out.

You might get some ideas from www.divebums.com or check out San Diego boats on www.californiadiveboats.com. I have only been down there to dive once - off of the Lois Ann. The weather seems to be improving here in LA at the moment, but I think there is another storm coming in on Sunday...timing is everything. Last weekend I was out at Catalina with 50 foot vis.

Jessica, if the weather is less than perfect, you may want to consider Catalina or the other Channel Islands that have better protected dive sites.

Great picture, Andy! But... where the hell is the sun?

Thanks for the info. Won't pack my gear but will bring C card just in case. We're still shaken up over a fellow divers drowning on this coast. . .will probably stay on land while in san diego or may just try kayaking instead. . .dived Catalina over summer & loved the kelp forest! It's like flying amongst the tree tops. I'll book mark the websites. Unfortuantly the loisann is closed jan/feb.

I plan on being at the marine room saturday morn at 7am praying the conditions are 3' surf and less.

Andy

I'm out of town this WE. Plus you're way too early for me. How about a night dive sometime? I'm probably going drive down to SD in March.
