Condition Report: Old Garden Beach, Rockport, MA 04 Aug 13

Time: 8pm
Exposure: roughtly Northerly
Tide: Almost high and going out
Temp: 50 deg surface, 48 deg at 40'
Vis: 5'-10' (best estimate during a night dive, lots of back scatter with an 18W HID)
Seas: Flat, with long period rollers
Surge: Considerable shallow (<10'), and noticable and enough to kick things up deeper

The coming storms have definitely stirred things up. Last time at was at this site (04 Aug 8) the vis was 15-20' and temp was 61 deg down to 25'!!!!

While the entry isn't bad yet, the vis is pretty cr*ppy, esp. along the transition from sand to rock reef. I cannot see conditions getting better until a few days into next week.

Several people whose opinion I trust advised me to skip diving this weekend. With today as beautiful as a summer day can be, I've been second guessing them all day. Nice to hear that my trusted sources can and should be trusted.

Just got back from Folly and it was excellent! Vis was 15-20 at least, temps were a bit on the chilly side (average in the low 50's). The sea was as calm as could be here. Glad i went today because i think tomorrow will be a different story.

I dove Folly yesterday, Saturday, and it was great.

Entered at 9:30 a.m. and had 25 foot visibility. Temperature was a bit chilly, but I'll take the good visibility in calm waters any time. Great dive location and a great dive for my first time at Folly.
