I apologize in advance for the repeat thread,..because I should have posted this here the first time. Oops!

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are thinking about going to Curacao for our summer vacation this year. (in July) All we want to do is dive! We've heard many good things about Sunset Waters, and it fits what we want..so this may be the choice holiday.

Since we usually book our vacations as packages (through a tour operator) with Flight included,...we are a bit unsure on how to go about booking at this hotel.

If you've booked/stayed at this hotel (especially if you booked from Canada) I'm curious to hear how you went about it.

What's the best, and cheapest way?
Is is best to book directly through the hotel?
Or, through a travel agency?
Or Online?
How about the All-Inclusive stay package with diving included?
And Flights?

I've contacted them a week ago, and have gotten no response....and no one is answering the phone!

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Hope you can help...

My wife and I stayed there back in 2001. We booked through a travel agency and I think we got a pretty good deal. Airfare and all-inclusive at the resort. Diving was not included, it was an add-on, but we did our AOW there, so our diving was covered with the class.

On a side note, I am not familiar with the dive op they have there now. When we dove there, Easy Divers was their dive op, but they have since moved over to Habitat. I can tell you that Easy Divers is a first-rate operation. I have heard some good things about Sunset Divers, but I don't have any first-hand experience with them.

Enjoy! The house reef at Sunset Waters is some excellent diving, and some of the best sites on the island are an easy boat trip away. Make sure they take you to Mushroom Forest at some point while you are out there!

Did you call Sunset Waters direct, or call the Chicago booking office at 866-578-6738?

They are a little slow in responding to inquiries - my experience has been a day or two, but a week is kind of long.

I've always booked direct with them, plus my own flights on AA (and one time, on Air Jamaica) and then rented a car to drive out there. They do have RT transport from Hato available. If you're not planning on doing anything than lounging around at the place and diving, you won't need a car. If you want to do anything else you'll need one as they're a good 45 minutes out of Willemstad and there isn't anything else near there. One option is (to avoid having a car sitting unused) to get a ride out to the resort, then pay the $15 or whatever they are charging now to one-way you back to the airport to rent a car once you want one to tool around in.

AA flys twice daily to Curacao out of Miami. Easy to book; flights are rarely more than 60% full. $500 RT is typical from the USA. Air Jamaica can often match or beat AA, but they are somewhat less reliable, fly a limited schedule and only from certain USA cities.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the info.
I finally got a hold of Cory today...and asked her a few questions.

Since we live in Canada,..we're looking at a flight costing around $1000 -$1300 each. That is a huge add on to the rest of our costs. Especially since we want to stay for 2 weeks. We're trying to figure out how we can score a better deal on a flight.

Allspread Grapealo: Thanks for the car tip...that may be something we'll look into!

So, are there two airports??

No - only Hato. Largest runway in the Caribbean. Big jets.

fab,
welcome to this board.
i took my family to sunset in '04.
my non-diving wife enjoyed the snorkling on the house reef.
my son earned his ow from sunset divers.
the accomindations were clean.
the food was good.
the staff was cheerfull and helpfull.
the managment would ask us if we needed anything daily.
we didn't rent a car so we used the shuttle bus to town.
we had a very good holiday.
we would like to return there someday.
upon your safe return please drop us off a trip report.
regards,
