There is really no rhyme or reason as to when they weigh carry-ons and enforce the limits. Sometimes, they could not care less, and others, they will not budge. I always work hard at ensuring they hopefully do not see my carry-on bag and keep it strapped to my back. I never use anything that is borderline in dimensions will surely be noticed. For the most part, if you are only a kg over, kind, friendly, and show them the camera gear, I would bet they won't make you check it.Thanks. What’s your experience about how strict Batik is with carry on? Read on fb they weigh everything and make you put anything over 7 kg in hold luggage…
I have not had any issues with Batik. Last time I flew with them was Ambon to Jakarta in September 2024, where I had a backpack with probably 10 kg of computer, camera, batteries and stuff; plus a second personal item bag comprising my housing in a Nauticam bag. Garuda also appears to allow a personal item in addition to the carry on bag.Thanks. What’s your experience about how strict Batik is with carry on? We usually have our regulators, dive computers, torches, camera/strobes, masks and medicine in the carry on (along with swim suit, toiletries and a sarong, but those I can put in hold if needed). Weight is about 8 kg +/-
Thank you for the correction. Garuda, however, will give you 23kg for your scuba gear baggage. I'll take every little kilo I can squeeze out for free. You are wrong. Batik has a 15kg scuba gear allowance.
Looks like you've decided on Batik, but for future reference, you may not see an award mileage flight on the KLM website unless you log in. Some airlines require that if you want to see award availability. Also, Delta does not have any mileage transfer partners.Good point about booking and cancel, if we change our mind.
If I can avoid, I never use 3rd party either, but sometimes (and especially for Indonesia) I could not avoid, as was not able to buy directly - pretty sure that's not a problem with Garuda.
How did you book using your Delta miles? We don't have Delta - but do have KLM, which is also SkyTeam. Just tried to book via the KLM web page, but not possible to choose SOQ.
Thank you so much! Made me try again. Not only did I have to log in - I had to also click the "buy with miles" button, then I could put in SOQ as arrival. Great use of miles Will be flying Garuda to Sorong and probably Batik on the return - no real point in getting up very early, when we still have plenty of waiting time in CGK.Looks like you've decided on Batik, but for future reference, you may not see an award mileage flight on the KLM website unless you log in.
