We are not sure if surgery is an option as of yet but I am very apprehensive about any surgery that involves the back or vertebrae.
I would be hoping to see how the shots work out first.
This problem has been going on for just under 2 weeks so I am hoping with treatment it will get better etc and my friend become pain free.

Thank you for the information in regards to the shots. It was a worry to me if the shots could mask anything.

I will take this advice and thank you for it. I can understand why a diving operation would stop people diving just to cover their own selves.
The only problem with taking medication is my friend is pretty much allergic to everything under the sun from penicillin to diet coke. So the doctor has to be very careful in what medication he gives her.
Myself id love an instant cure and maybe surgery is it, but I know that is wishful thinking and me being naive.
In regards to lifting etc, that is something we can always make sure of she doesn’t do too much off.

You are correct in the fact this isn’t something that will heal unless one has surgery I guess.
My friend wants to learn and is passionate about it, so that is why I am asking here and we will be seeing a neurologist as well, one knowledgeable in diving.
I guess my biggest fear is her ever getting bent or her having these symptoms and us not knowing whether she is bent or it is just the bone spur.
I agree one must live life to its fullest and do all that makes them happy.
Thank you all for this great information and your time responding
