We just got back from bonaire monday. What a great place. We stayed at the Plaza resort and used Toucan dive there. We did several shore dive no boat dives. It was incredible. The diving was the best. We did one dive with Dee Scarr and would recommend it to anyone she was fantastic and taught my wife and i a lot about the reefs and fish life. We seen a octopus fed it and interacted with it. It was about two feet away from us and made for great photos. We seen sea turtles, sea horses and a multitude of other fish. The food was great Casablancas is awesome. Wnet there twice, the mixed grill for 40 bucks gave us dinner and two lunches. Richards for fish and seafood was another quick fav. For lunch we went to the City Cafe and also used them for downloading pics to discs. The burgers were the best there. Went to Old inn by plaza for lunch and had really good subs there. As far as the problems on the island, the only one i could find is not having enough daylight to do more dives. I did here of one break in to a vehicle, It was the persons fault though she left her purse on the front seat in plain view and someone smashed the window to get it. It was recovered the same day and all that was took was the cash out of it. It was her fault for doing it and she even said so. She said she wouldn't do it at home and was just not thinking about it when she ran into the post office and bank. Other than that i heard of no other problems. Most of the people at the resort left their regs and wetsuits out to dry on ground level, not that i would do that my dive gear is far to precious to me. But there was no problems that i heard of with anything being taken. Security was pretty good at the resort. We are planning on going back in two years, If we didn't have tickets to use for Hawaii it would be sooner. The people were great there all very helpfull and kind. It was a great experience and would recommend going there to anyone. I will be posting pics in the near future to my yahoo site so check often for updated pics (probably get around to it this sat and sun). Thanks to everyones tips that helped to make the trip go smoother.

Now on Air Jamaica, what a crappy company to deal with It started out that the flights were delayed getting there which was not to bad. Now coming home was another thing the CANCELLED our flight to atlanta Totally changed everything about the way to get home and acted like it was no big deal. We got rerouted to New Jersey and had to stay the night there. The next day when we were supposed to catch our other flight they NEVER made the arrangements. We had to fight with them to get on a plane. With all the things happening we talked to a supervisor and were told that since the government took over they cancell flights all the time. We were supposed to fly delta back in the state and were switched to continental. We were told that it was because there were problems between air jam and delta and that is whay flights were being cancelled by delta with air jam. Supposedly it was over the maintenence on the planes not meeting Deltas expectations and they didn't want the customers flying on dangerous planes. Now wether this is true or not i havn't been able to get a straight answer from anybody. When i talked to a delta rep her reply was "Well i know we are having some problems with air jam but that is all i can tell you". When i questioned an air Jam rep they replied that since the government got invloved the airlines went to ****, and that the company has gone backwards to where they wer about ten years ago. Not a single flight was on time with them. They didnt ewven know if they were going to have a plane for those of us getting rerouted and that plane was scheduled to go somewhere else, which they cancelled that flight to put us on it and stranded those people in Jamaica. I hope they got home. I talked to a person that left saturday and they just got home today. I am not sure i will use them for qiute a while. At least till they get some things fixed. They are quite a joke.
If i had a choice between air jam and swimming i think i would swim. It took us 28 hours to get home instead of 7.

Thanks for the report, Aaron...my wife and I will be visiting Bonaire on the 14th (5 days)! We're flying in with AA into Curacao and Divi Divi into Bonaire. We've read reports of rampant theft with trepidation...I'm glad it wasn't a problem for you. Nice photos of Gilboa, by the way. I'll be dropping down there when the air temperatures break 0C.

Great shots! Sorry we missed you on Bonaire. We are in NJ (southern) and it is VERY cold. So sorry you had such a rough time with AJ. They do need to get their act together, they will though. We too had delays coming home, but not like yours. About 1 1/2 hours delay into Philly. Where did you take those great pics? Were you with Dee? Thanks and hope to see you once again on Bonaire!

Liz

the octo and eels were with dee at the town pier, the sea horse was across from the yellow submarine dive shop in a large form of coral in 35 foot of water. the others were a mix of invisibles, margate bay and windsock. I will be psoting more i have a bunch of cds to upload to my computer.

I looked at your pics. What the heck are you doing in Gilboa with that "exposure protection"? Are you insane! T-shirt?! WTH?

well when you dive northern michigan it was quite warm there actually. Actually the water temp down to 45 feet was in the 60's it was actually reallt warm and we were there in sept. Surface was 71 degrees. When we went to 60 feet we hit the temp break and the it dropped to about fifty my wife didn't like it that cold so we went back to 40 feet. We were in 6mm suits i was wearing my top half and my wife was wearing her jane

Yikes, I'd be shivering. And I'm used to Columbus winters (but you're right, that's not Northern Michigan winters...burrrrrr).

Glad to hear you had a good time Aaron, I wish I could get back soon. It is a real pitty about AJ. They use to be a really good airline. I sure hope they can get their act back together.

Herman,
I guess one of the worst things is neither airline will give me a straight answer. They both beat around the topic and tell me a little more each time i talk to them. I was told last night that ait jam cut 3/4 of its employees and that is why things are so messed up. They dont have the maintenance techs to keep the planes working, the pilots to fly the planes and the flight attendants to take care of the customers. With the FAA regs they have to take so much time between flights and they are running over that everyday. Which is why the others air lines are ticked at them. I was told by a customs agent that since the gov took over not a single flight has been into the airport in new jersey on time, and before they were usually pretty good. We were supposed to get into NJ at 11:15 and didn't get there till 12:30, and of course we were the last flight customs was waiting for. The agent was pretty cool even though he said he sat there for an extra hour waiting for us.
I hope they get there act back together because we are planning on going back in 2 years and i really don't want to swim
