...so I guess I have to get him open heel fins to accomadate the booties, right, goes without saying???
That would be right. I tried it in surfwalkers and I have a permanent 5" x 1" scar on my right shin now. I guess he could also remove the boots and switch to his fins out past the shallows, there's usually sandy bottom(at least in places) after that. You'll be carrying your fins out anyway nobody wears them getting in at any location.

I have a pair of Scubapro boots, they have zippers down the side and a 1/4" hard treaded sole that's stitched all the way around, they'd work.

It is a good idea but I was trying to find some last minute gifts for the holidays anyways so I'll probably get him the booties and fins. Besides the camo colored neoprene socks he wears just have to go. It looks like he woke up and couldn't decide whether he wanted to dive or hunt! Actually I just saw a neat looking pair of boots at the oceanic website that claim to be just for rocky shore diving and have a little heel bubble for comfort.( I think Dad just might get a pair as well).I gotta be careful though, if my daughter takes to this sport it's gonna cost me a bundle because everything she gets is going to have to match and be color coordinated ! Somebody please tell me Ecko and Tommy don't make dive gear, pleeease!
And thanks for the PM about the wireless internet Steve, thats great now if I can just pry the laptop out of my wifes hands I'll be set! It's great to be able to pull up a resorts website and show them that your not getting whatever it is that they promised in their "internet special" or to plan your itinerary, get a map etc.
